Neville Glover: Rugby Legend Passes Away at 70

Former Australian rugby league star Neville “Nifty” Glover has died at 70 following a brief illness, leaving the sporting community in mourning.

Glover enjoyed a stellar career with Parramatta Eels, featuring in 121 matches and scoring 59 tries between 1975 and 1983. He also made 13 appearances for Penrith before retiring and transitioning into coaching. His representative career included playing for New South Wales, Australia, and City Firsts in 1978.

Beyond the field, Glover served as a police sergeant and senior prosecutor, earning the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2018 for his contributions to rugby league and the community. Despite being remembered for a dropped pass in the 1976 grand final, his legacy extends far beyond that moment.

Parramatta Eels paid tribute, stating, “Everyone at the Club — including former teammates, colleagues, and friends — is deeply saddened by Neville’s passing. He will always be a valued part of the Blue and Gold family.” The team will wear black armbands in his honor during their next match.
