Florida Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen Found Dead Months After Brother’s Tragic Passing

The Coral Springs community is in shock following the death of Nancy Metayer Bowen, Vice Mayor of Coral Springs, Florida, whose body was discovered at her home on April 1, 2026. Authorities report that her husband, Stephen Bowen, allegedly confessed to a witness that he shot her in their bedroom and later went to sleep downstairs. He has been charged with premeditated murder and evidence tampering.

Tragically, this comes just three months after the passing of Nancy’s brother, Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer, a survivor of the 2018 Parkland school shooting. Donovan, who was 26, died by suicide in December 2025. His family previously shared that he struggled with mental health challenges stemming from the trauma of the Parkland tragedy, which claimed 17 lives.

Nancy had been deeply affected by her brother’s death, sharing heartfelt messages on social media. In December, she posted a GoFundMe in his memory, and the day after his passing, she wrote about their close sibling bond, describing Donovan as the sibling she felt compelled to protect the most.

The Coral Springs Police Department continues to investigate the case as the community mourns the sudden loss of a dedicated public servant and the Metayer family faces another heartbreaking tragedy.
